Before you can start work in a sales, property management or client service position (where you give advice or information about property) in a real estate agency you must have a Certificate of Registration, known as a "Salespersons Registration" in the ACT.
The Salespersons registration is issued by the Office of Regulatory Services to to applicants of good character, and have successfully completed the registration course. You can find more information about the requirements on the ORS website.

ACT Registration Course Units
CPPDSM4080A - Work in the industry
This unit of competency specifies the outcomes required to enable a new entrant to the real estate industry to gain a basic understanding of the industry in order to work ethically and effectively in a real estate agency.
This includes awareness of ethical and conduct standards, basic functions of real estate operations, industry employment requirements and knowledge of current legislation pertaining to the real estate industry.
CPPDSM4007A Identify legal and ethical requirements of property management to complete agency work
This unit of competency specifies the outcomes required to meet the core legal and ethical requirements associated with property management.
This includes awareness of the legislation dealing with leasing and management of property, the role and responsibility of agency personnel in property management, the recording of property management transactions and the completing of property management documentation.
CPPDSM4008A Identify legal and ethical requirements of property sales to complete agency work
This unit of competency specifies the outcomes required to satisfy the core legal and ethical requirements pertaining to property sales.
This includes awareness of current legislation relating to property sales, the roles and responsibilities of agency personnel involved in property sales, the administration of sales transactions and the correct completion of all sales documentation.
CPPDSM4009B Interpret legislation to complete agency work
This unit of competency specifies the outcomes required to source and interpret legislation affecting real estate operations. It includes identifying and applying statutory interpretation techniques, identifying and tracking changes to relevant real estate legislation and industry codes of conduct and maintaining appropriate records.
CPPDSM4015B – Minimise agency and consumer risk
This unit of competency specifies the outcomes required to minimise risk to all aspects of agency business and to consumers. It includes identifying potential risks to the agency and its clients, analysing the causes and potential impact of risks, and implementing agency policies and procedures to minimise risks to the agency and consumers.

How long will it take to complete this course?
If you were to work on this course full-time you should expect to complete all the assessment in 4-6 days. Assessments will normally take the form of short answer questions, as well as case studies and projects designed to demonstrate you can apply the information and knowledge you have gained. You may also be required to complete a short verbal assessment via Skype / Facetime or by phone as part of this course, or submit an audio or video recording. You will need to complete all the required assessment activities and send your completed assessments responses for marking. You may send scanned copies by email as long as they come from the email address you used to enrol in the course.
Assessment Marking
Your assessor will mark your assessments and provide feedback as you complete each unit. Assessment and marking is competency based, which means that you are assessed as either “Competent” or “Not yet competent”. If you are assessed as “Not yet competent” your assessor will provide feedback and guidance to help you attain competency. You should expect your assessments to be marked within a 7 to 10 day turn around period, although it is often faster than this. Once you have been assessed as competent in all units you will be awarded your Certificate / Statement of Attainment and Record of Unit Results. - What will I receive once I have completed?What will I receive once I have completed?What will I receive once I have completed?
When you have completed all the requirements of the course you will receive either:
- A Certificate and Record of Unit Results
- Statement of Attainment, or
- A Statement of Achievement

How do I obtain my Registration Certificate?
You will need to provide your Statement of Attainment to The Office of Regulatory Services in Canberra together with your application form for your Salesperson Registration and the required fee.
