The Real Estate industry in the ACT is regulated by the Office of Regulatory Services. The Real Estate legislation in the Territory, the Agents Act 2003 and Agents Regulation 2003, defines the roles, responsibilities and obligations for real estate agents and salespeople and property managers, and the educational requirements for each role.

The first step in the ACT is to becoming a real estate agent is to be a Registered Salesperson. As a Registered Salesperson you can work as a Real Estate Salesperson, Property Manager or Unit Title (Strata) Manager for a licensed real estate agent. However, you cannot operate your own agency, nor may you employ other real estate agents or registered salespeople.

A licensed Real Estate Agent is able to operate a real estate agency and employ registered salespeople and other real estate agents to work in the agency in many different capacities.

Each year all registered salespeople and Real Estate Agents are require to complete a short Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Course and earn 12 CPD  points in order to renew their registration or licence.
